Final Project: Essential Fashion

 -Week 6~Week 14-
(27.9.2021-22.11.2021)
Introduction to Fashion Design
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic: Essential Fashion

-Week 6-
At the end of the lecture, Ms. Maria us about this final project. In this final project, we need to develop our design ideas using skills that we have obtained throughout the semester. We will be creating an “Essential Fashion” capsule collection. The essential items are the must-have items in the consumer wardrobe and can be easily transformed and matched to follow recent trends. Each student is required to design an essential collection for their target market using the design technique learned this semester. Students are required to find their specialty and identity that represent the designer's creativity. We can start to do initial research about the theme, target market, muse and create our moodboard.

-Week 7-
In this lecture, Ms. Maria showed us some examples of moodboard, concept board and color board. Then, she gave us some time to prepare for our first presentation.
My target market is women, 18-30 years old. Their occupation may be a student or office worker, income range is low-mid range. For the audience's lifestyle can be fashion-forward and enjoy social activity, such as shopping. Therefore the location will be university and shopping mall.
I selected Ryujin as my muse. She is a group member of ITZY, a K-pop girl group. I think she is a cool girl.
This slide show Ryujin's style. I choose Ryujin as my muse because any style that she wears looks good on her. She can be elegant, cute and also sexy.
Here are some examples of garments that are suitable for her.
This is my moodboard for this final project. What I want to try is patchwork since I like something different. I think I gonna use some plaid fabrics to do the patchwork. The colors that I selected are red, blue, yellow and black.

Feedback by lecture:
Ms. Maria wanted me to figure out what style is the most suitable for my muse. And also complete the concept board and color board. She said that it is good that I had already done the fabrics research.

-Week 8-
After the first presentation, I do some research about Ryu Jin to find out her style. Finally, I figured out what style I want to design and also completed the concept board & color board. Then I showed it to Ms. Maria.

Feedback by lecture:
Ms. Maria said everything is okay and she liked the color combination. Then, she told me to start my sketches for this design.

I start to draw the sketches. I use some inorganic shapes to draw patterns.
Then, I decided to draw illustrations since my concept is patchwork and need to add the plaids pattern in the design. I think it is easier for me to color my design.
So, I start to draw my muse portrait as Ms. Maria told us if we use illustration then we need to draw our muse. RyuJin is my muse, so I find a front profile of her to draw.

After that, I start to draw my sketch in illustration.

-Week 9-
I have done my sketch, then I show it to Ms. Maria.

Then, we discuss to choose 4 pieces of design to make in the garment.
Selected Look 1
Selected Look 2
For the Look 1 top, Ms. Maria wants me to combine all the chosen color plaids inside the design since my concept is patchwork.

So, I try to combine all the chosen color plaids in the top design and below is the result.

Feedback by lecture:
Ms. Maria suggest me to continue the yellow plaids to the sleeve and have the white shirt under the checked yellow sleeve, so it will balance with the skirt's asymmetrical lines because this design's silhouette looks like a vest. She also recommend me to go with something unique and unexpected. It's a brave color choice for this design.

Here is my final design. Ms. Maria says is nice and tells me to proceed with flat drawing.
-Week 10-
I have done the flat drawing for the selected design, then I show it to Ms. Maria.
