Assignment 01: Research & Idea Findings (Zero Waste Fashion)

-Week 1~Week 3-
(28.3.2022~11.4.2022)
Fashion Project 1
--------------------------------------------
Topic: Research & Idea Findings (Zero Waste Fashion)

For this assignment, students will be working in a group to research how local or international brands applied Zero Waste Fashion to their designs. Students will be guided through various mentorship sessions with Industry to gain knowledge and explore the different concepts of Zero Waste Fashion. Students must conduct research and explore ideas in groups on design and pattern drafting techniques to effectively reduce fabric waste.

-Week 1-
Ms. Maria briefs us about the module booklet and also assignment 1. We have to do research about Zero waste fashion in groups and design our presentation board on Miro Board. At the end, we have to share our research and idea findings in the class.
After grouping, Marcus and I are divided into a group. We start our discussion about the Zero waste fashion research and also distribute our work. Then, we start to do our research on different parts of Zero Waste Fashion, such as Technique, Pattern, Materials, Artistic direction, Application and Culture/Historical elements.

-Week 2-
We have done some research and pasted the links and images on Miro Board.
We showed our process to Ms. Maria on Monday. At first, we have an idea to focus on 1 zero-waste designer which is Daniel Silverstein. He is a zero-waste designer who uses fabric scraps to make genderless clothing. Next, the technique of zero-waste fashion is draping and flat pattern drawing. For materials, we know that we are required to use green materials or hard-to-recycle materials (plastic).
We have Saree and Kimono for culture/historical elements.

Feedback by lecturer:
Ms. Maria said Zero Waste Daniel was interesting but she told us to not only focus on 1 designer since we were doing research. Besides that, find more images for those research outcomes. For the culture part, dig more about the costume and which part of the costume applies the zero waste technique.

Below is our research on Thursday. We have found more images for our research. Other than that, we also found more zero waste designers that apply different techniques in their Zero Waste design.

I think that's enough for our research findings so we start to design our presentation board on the Miro board. Marcus and I also distributed the works when designing the board. The parts that Marcus will design and organize are technique, materials and culture/historical elements. I'm in charge of pattern and zero waste designer which also includes the application and artistic direction. Below is the process we did on Thursday in the class.

-Week 3-
We have done our presentation board last Saturday and practiced our presentation on Sunday.
Here is the final result of our research findings on zero-waste fashion.

-Thank You-
