Fashion Project 1

Theme: Zero Waste Fashion
As the awareness of our global waste, water pollution and plastic pollution crises rise, zero waste living become a quickly-growing trend nowadays. When we go to the fashion part, we have zero waste fashion.
Zero-waste fashion refers to items of clothing that generate little or no textile waste in their production. That means designer has to practice arranging all the patterns fit together like a puzzle in a fabric or design some patterns for clothing with little or no fabric waste.
Zero waste design,” or, “zero waste pattern making,” refers to the practice of designing patterns for clothing with little to no fabric waste.

The zero waste technique that I used in my collection is Subtraction cutting invented by Julian Robert. Subtraction cutting is a technique where the fabric cuts represent the negative spaces instead of positive ones. We usually cut out the bodice block but for subtraction cutting, it leaves the bodice block.
Julian Robert uses the body outline of Timo Rissanen to make garment template patterns and humanized measures/rules for the construction of Subtraction Cutting trousers.
Subtraction cutting is DESIGNING WITH PATTERN, rather than creating patterns for design.
The process of subtraction cutting is quite unique and you can’t imagine how is your garment look at the end. Just like our life, you don't know what will happen in the future, but you still have to find out your own way. As people are born differently, you are not weird, be confident and just shine in your own way!
